Wednesday late night, April 9 - approx Midnight

Subject: GOD IS GOOD...

ALL THE TIME!!!! NO NERVE DAMAGE!!!!! to the right shoulder!!!! THANX SO MUCH FOR PRAYING!!!!! We are so exillerated by this news! It could be a torn rotator cuff, etc but I will have to wait and visit with Dr Weintraub to find out what strategy he will take to further investigate the limitations of this arm. BUT Dwight did squeeze a hand shake TWICE today with the RIGHT hand .... once to the OT and once to the nerve doc!! He also crossed his RIGHT leg over his left leg!!! COOL huh? He swallowed on command again today as well ... the STs even gave him a teeney tiney bit of vanilla pudding .. which Dwight fed himself. His eye contact and tracking are extremely good! The OT wanted Dwight to wash his own face and she pushed his wheel chair up to the sink ... before she could get the brakes on Dwight had the hot water on, with his hand under the running water, he reached over and put the cold water on .. felt the water and turned the cold water down some ... tell me he didn't know what he was doing!!!!!! He also gave me a hug good bye tonight!!!! In his afternoon PT they put him in what they call the 'standing chair' .... he sits in this chair and they strap him in. They then pump the chair so that it tips Dwight into an upright standing position with his knees and chest up against pads. He did this for a full 30 minutes and tolerated it BEAUTIFULLY!!!!! He even had the hand eye coordination to seperate the black and red checkers of a 'Connect Four' game and had the know how of where the checkers went .... I must exclaim it is so much FUN now to observe and watch him. I don't want to miss a class!!!! It is just TOO COOL!!!! His trunk control is improving daily and he is getting stonger as well. He is SO alert during the day. Keep praying he will continue sleeping well at night. I can tell when he has slept well and when he has not .... The rec dept is planning a short trip to the zoo on Sat. She said we'll leave at 10 and return around 1:30. It will be interesting to see how he tolerates the ride and the new surroundings, noises, crowd, etc.! Enough for now .... THANX SO MUCH FOR PRAYING!!!!
