Sunday morning, May 11 - approx 10:30 AM
Hello! The reason for no updates the past few days is that I was "out of pocket" ... I went to KS to go to a Mother/Daughter banquet with Denise. It was FABULOUS!!! I thoroughly enjoyed my time with my precious daughter!! I did not notify anyone in KS of my coming because I arrived Thursday afternoon and Friday I spent the day visiting the Rehab centers we have as options and I left Saturday morning ... no time for calls or visits ... sorry! I'll be home shortly!
Thursday's swim class therapy, to quote Dwight, ' it was therapy'. Friday they worked his right side hard to help build up the strength and stamina. He was very moody all day Friday and Saturday morning. Joe felt it was a combination of him being very tired from a long hard week and the fact I was gone. The first seperation since the accident. He was very glad to see me yesterday when I arrived. Today I have not yet gotten to his room. I so felt the need to get an update/explanation out to everyone. Friday they also attempted letting him walk with a walker and it went only so-so. Joe said the coordination with the right leg/foot wasn't the best and needs lots of work. In speech Thursday Jen, his ST, asked him what the last thing before the accident he remembered and he told her going down the jump .... then she asked what was the first thing he remembered 'since' the accident and he said "Denise" ... when questioned what Denise was doing he said, "Trying to wake me up" ... that would have been way back in Denver Health trauma unit. Pretty cool, huh? He also GAINED - get this - TEN pounds last week! That is a total of FIFTEEN!!!!! 35 more to go!!!!!
Joe flies out of Denver to Florida on business this afternoon and returns Wednesday ... pray for safety and stamina ... he is pretty drained emotionally/physically from the travels back and forth .... he just found out about the necessity of this trip on Friday when his office contacted him here......he'll drive back to KS either mid afternoon Wed or Thursday morning ... not certain yet ... we need to work all the details out.
Denise also could use extra prayer at this time as she is not only working on her finals for school -- graduation is the 24th of May, yet she is changing jobs (to a better one within the company) PLUS she is planning a wedding!!!! YES, she and David are engaged (have been unofficially for quite some time but it was official two weeks ago when he got the ring!!) They have set 6 June for the wedding. They are registered at Dillards. It will be a family wedding as they don't want the 'hoopla" (my word
) of a big wedding. Needless to say the stress levels have risen and time is VERY limited for her! AND, Mom is here and unable to do much for 'her' .....
We so appreciate everyone's prayers and love, care and support through all this. It is definitely draining in so many areas yet God's Grace is sufficient and His mercies ARE new EVERY morning!! Please keep us in prayer ....
